Paramore tackling Talking Heads, Pierce The Veil doing a killer Radiohead cover, PAW covering Nirvana, Front Line Assembly with Jimmy Urine covering Falco! <br /><br />I don't think anyone writes love ballads as beautifully as Susie Suh. The songs by Principe Valentine and Allie X, both new discoveries for me, feel straight out of a John Hughes movie or an 80's goth club. It's great to hear an unearthed Linkin Park tune.<br /><br />And the title of this mix comes from the new Beth Gibbons (of Portishead) single, "Floating On A Moment," which ends with the lyric "all we have is here and now, all going nowhere." Crank it, enjoy, discover something new!<br /><br /><b><u>2024, Vol 2: All We Have Is Here and Now</u></b><br /><br />1. <i>Dark Matter</i> by <b>Pearl Jam</b><br />2. <i>Burning Down The House</i> by <b>Paramore</b><br />3. <i>Castaway</i> by <b>Bayside</b><br />4. <i>School</i> by <b>PAW</b><br />5. <i>Friendly Fire</i> by <b>Linkin Park</b><br />6. <i>Karma Police</i> by <b>Pierce The Veil</b><br />7. <i>Under Our Pillows</i> by <b>The Smile</b><br />8. <i>Broken Man</i> by <b>St. Vincent</b><br />9. <i>Our World</i> by <b>James</b><br />10. <i>I Do</i> by <b>Susie Suh</b><br />11. <i>Running</i> by <b>Norah Jones</b><br />12. <i>Floating on a Moment</i> by <b>Beth Gibbons</b><br />13. <i>Memories</i> by <b>Dean Lewis</b><br />14. <i>Who I Am</i> by <b>Alan Walker, Putri Ariani & Peder Elias</b><br />15. <i>Coffee</i> by <b>Hinds</b><br />16. <i>Something New</i> by <b>Principe Valentine</b><br />17. <i>jamcod</i> by <b>The Jesus and Mary Chain</b><br />18. <i>Weird World</i> by <b>Allie X</b><br />19. <i>Mustang</i> by <b>Kings of Leon</b><br />20. <i>Capricorn</i> by <b>Vampire Weekend</b><br />21. <i>Danzig With Myself</i> by <b>The Dandy Warhols featuring Black Francis</b><br />22. <i>Rock Me Amadeus</i> by <b>Front Line Assembly featuring Jimmy Urine</b><br />23. <i>B.D.E.</i> by <b>Ministry</b><br />24. <i>Idle Hands</i> by <b>Kerry King</b> <br /><br /><iframe allow="autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="352" loading="lazy" src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/playlist/0ptKYpeL3JMKlaLZHQtsCV?utm_source=generator" style="border-radius: 12px;" width="100%"></iframe><br /><br /><iframe allow="autoplay *; encrypted-media *; fullscreen *; clipboard-write" frameborder="0" height="450" sandbox="allow-forms allow-popups allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-storage-access-by-user-activation allow-top-navigation-by-user-activation" src="https://embed.music.apple.com/us/playlist/2024-vol-2-all-we-have-is-here-and-now/pl.u-7DxqysWa6ed6" style="border-radius: 10px; max-width: 660px; overflow: hidden; width: 100%;"></iframe><br /><br /><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/videoseries?si=DmGLhm-qAjDI7fWy&list=PLhB7uaMw80KReEiQWDv0_qF1GnwH_jEn5" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe><br /></p>Robert V Galluzzohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02498151275554902311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1204446957257331884.post-46734939290155074752024-02-03T17:00:00.000-08:002024-02-03T20:55:03.842-08:002024, Vol 1: Bent Not Broken - First Mixtape of the Year!<p></p><center><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV_fegeqj1KpiTt1QfH8u6rdgrmm-yrhNwc_q3Pw646N6QxvbUbEbXTfCKK77kTAAGWnUAG2Ez8JKMB3UIQcf7ZvegWJuS5AsKx5pGQjw55mY96IKyEk5RhjgbcsMc1MHPPIg9Z8MnPzgIpDVS2YudHQcAqhNSvgiUU1baZ4lFrOauM4RB4R9IeStQPh8o/s3088/Trees.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3088" data-original-width="2316" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV_fegeqj1KpiTt1QfH8u6rdgrmm-yrhNwc_q3Pw646N6QxvbUbEbXTfCKK77kTAAGWnUAG2Ez8JKMB3UIQcf7ZvegWJuS5AsKx5pGQjw55mY96IKyEk5RhjgbcsMc1MHPPIg9Z8MnPzgIpDVS2YudHQcAqhNSvgiUU1baZ4lFrOauM4RB4R9IeStQPh8o/w480-h640/Trees.jpg" width="480" /></a><br /><br /></center><i>"Maybe you've got to break me to see what I'm made of..."</i><br /><br />That lyric from the <b>Middle Kids</b> single <i>"Bend"</i> is what started out as the main inspiration behind my first mix of the new year. I usually build these playlists off of one song of "new discoveries." But then, during the Christmas break, I read drummer Barrett Martin's latest book, followed by Mark Lanegan's "Sing Backwards and Weep" and "Devil In A Coma," and that set me off on a deep dive back into the <b>Screaming Trees</b> music. So that ended up becoming the foundation for these set of songs. Brand new tunes, sprinkled with the heart, soul, and voice of Mark Lanegan. <br /><br />The first new single from Billy Joel in 17 years. A pair of tunes from Michael C. Hall's band (fully channelling Bowie), Princess Goes. The surprising returns of KMFDM and James! A new, long lost song from Sunny Day Real Estate. A metal song about how much the STAR WARS sequels sucked. AL1CE covering A Perfect Circle! New music from The Smile, Chealsea Wolfe, Dean Lewis, Explosions In The Sky, NewDad, HELIUM's Mary Timony. A beautiful little romantic ditty by Durry. And so much more. <br /><br />I couldn't help but follow a Screaming Trees song with Liam Gallagher, especially after reading about their beef in Lanagen's memoir. <br /><br /><center><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvPRKZwpA_sFZFozBrxFGClarBKDU9i1mpn6aEtRAa4lneF3Q8JZ327bnMIvooA2hstOJTZhFhPdIjqI4zfZlFVH0DN48pVWWafHEWJmOFMfjZSd39P7ryOt3-xBVlDpGPaAREK9o5lwMbciNz94O68gCq_jKcEKk7w6Acglf9vvrIe1qgqYwWTjv7H3Zw/s1170/LaneganTweet.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1153" data-original-width="1170" height="394" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvPRKZwpA_sFZFozBrxFGClarBKDU9i1mpn6aEtRAa4lneF3Q8JZ327bnMIvooA2hstOJTZhFhPdIjqI4zfZlFVH0DN48pVWWafHEWJmOFMfjZSd39P7ryOt3-xBVlDpGPaAREK9o5lwMbciNz94O68gCq_jKcEKk7w6Acglf9vvrIe1qgqYwWTjv7H3Zw/w400-h394/LaneganTweet.jpg" width="400" /></a></center><br />This collection, like all the previous mixes, is intended to take you on a journey. Normally I only make 4 volumes; one per season, and a master playlist at the end of the year with BONUS tracks, but there was just so much good music this year that I couldn't help but add a few extra volumes!<br /><br />Kicking it off with the final Beatles song, followed by some Rolling Stones and U2. New music from: Taking Back Sunday, Middle Kids, Lauren Mayberry of CHVRCHES, Lawrence, Bruce Springsteen, Green Day, MGMT. Always happy to support friends like Skyhill, Katy Tunbridge, and Spiral Moon. (I cover their song "Falling" acoustically as Pike Project.) Speaking of covers, Dolly Parton covering 4 Non Blondes, Pearl Jam covering Tom Petty, guitar protegee Marcin doing his version of Layla! <br /><br />I was in a record store not too long ago and I recognized Thom Yorke's voice as they were playing the Modeselektor album. It deserves to be shared because it's a great listen. And the thing I love about receiving mixtapes is you can totally feel the personality of the person giving it to you. Every single one of these songs makes me think of Christie and her beautiful, bright spirit. And this could be my best mix in quite some time. <br /><br />It all started with a strong foundation. I was introduced to the band DURRY via my friend Sam Hoyas, and I instantly fell in love with their pitch-perfect pop debut album <i>"Suburban Legend."</i> So right away, I knew at least 3 of the songs from that album would make up the spine of this mix. <br /><br />Add to that brand new singles from The Rolling Stones, Crosses, L7, Lawrence, blink-182, Duran Duran; new music from slowdive, Explosions In The Sky, The National (a 2nd album in 2023!?), The Pauses. Friends music including System Syn, AL1CE, John Presnell (with an excellent music video by my dear friend Adam Barnick), my own new EP <i>"Pike Project Plays Spiral Moon!"</i> And the theme song from Netflix's ONE PIECE, arguably the best show this year, and this makes up for a lot of positive vibes. <br /><br />Give these tunes a spin, and enjoy! <br /><br /><b><u>2023, Vol 5: Who's Laughing Now</u></b><br /><br />1. <i>Who's Laughing Now</i> by <b>Durry</b><br />2. <i>Angry</i> by <b>The Rolling Stones</b><br />3. <i>I'm From LA</i> by <b>Go Betty Go</b><br />4. <i>69th St. Bridge</i> (from Escape From New York) by <b>John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter, & Daniel Davies</b><br />5. <i>Ghost Ride</i> by <b>Crosses</b><br />6. <i>Terrible Lie</i> by <b>Static X</b><br />7. <i>Say It Again</i> by <b>Filter</b><br />8. <i>We Hold This Time</i> by <b>System Syn</b><br />9. <i>Cooler Than Mars</i> by <b>L7</b><br />10. <i>I Cocoon</i> by <b>The Pauses</b><br />11. <i>My Sails Are Set</i> (from the Netflix series One Piece) by <b>Sonya Belousova & Giona Ostinelli</b><br />12. <i>i'm confident that i'm insecure</i> by <b>Lawrence</b><br />13. <i>I'm Fine (No Really)</i> by <b>Durry</b><br />14. <i>Nursing Your Shadow</i> by <b>John Presnell</b> <br />15. <i>Is It Over (Every Time We Say Goodbye)</i> by <b>Pike Project</b><br />16. <i>Space Invader</i> by <b>The National</b><br />17. <i>Ten Billion People</i> by <b>Explosions In The Sky</b><br />18. <i>the slab</i> by <b>Slowdive</b><br />19. <i>ONE MORE TIME</i> by <b>blink-182</b><br />20. <i>MORE THAN YOU KNOW</i> by <b>blink-182</b><br />21. <i>Are You Awake?</i> by <b>Lauren Mayberry</b> (of Churches) <br />22. <i>See Me</i> by <b>AL1CE</b><br />23. <i>Danse Macabre</i> by <b>Duran Duran</b><br />24. <i>Somewhere</i> by <b>Johnny Marr</b><br />25. <i>Another Fire</i> by <b>Voxtrot</b><br />26. <i>Encore</i> by <b>Durry</b><br />27. <i>Bending Hectic</i> by <b>The Smile</b> <br /><br /><iframe allow="autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="352" loading="lazy" src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/playlist/6jM8zHsahfkyGXZWWMPYhz?utm_source=generator" style="border-radius: 12px;" width="100%"></iframe><br /><br /><iframe allow="autoplay *; encrypted-media *;" frameborder="0" height="450" sandbox="allow-forms allow-popups allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-storage-access-by-user-activation allow-top-navigation-by-user-activation" src="https://embed.music.apple.com/us/playlist/2023-vol-5-whos-laughing-now/pl.u-DkL7Piapv1Pv" style="background: transparent; max-width: 660px; overflow: hidden; width: 100%;"></iframe><br /><br /><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/videoseries?si=IG98AAPAW-Eh4jZh&list=PLhB7uaMw80KTf-WX8JOkhs2YoVouLPogY" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe><br /><br /><p></p>Robert V Galluzzohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02498151275554902311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1204446957257331884.post-52522514152649803862023-10-06T09:00:00.001-07:002023-10-08T17:25:58.945-07:00New 4-Song Acoustic EP! He reminded me that when Pretty Polly wasn't available, I used to open up, solo, with an acoustic U2 cover of <i>"Sunday Bloody Sunday."</i> The Edge had done a live, stripped back and slowed down version of it on the <i>"If God Would Send His Angels"</i> CD single, so I did my version of that. <br /><br />And I figured... I might as well round it out by doing one of my own Pretty Polly song as well. <br /><br />Spiral Moon... my high school friends, my favorite local band... this was done with nothing but love and respect for you guys: Clifford Catropa, Jaxon, Frokus, Kenny Meyer. I hope you ALL dig it. ✌️ <br /><br /><iframe style="border-radius:12px" src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/album/61RkcsjFDOhYZrTTzRb392?utm_source=generator" width="100%" height="352" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" allow="autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture" loading="lazy"></iframe><br><br><iframe allow="autoplay *; encrypted-media *; fullscreen *; clipboard-write" frameborder="0" height="450" style="width:100%;max-width:660px;overflow:hidden;border-radius:10px;" sandbox="allow-forms allow-popups allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-storage-access-by-user-activation allow-top-navigation-by-user-activation" src="https://embed.music.apple.com/us/album/plays-spiral-moon-ep/1707012440"></iframe><br><br><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=1090364566/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://pikeproject.bandcamp.com/album/pike-project-plays-spiral-moon">Pike Project Plays Spiral Moon by Pike Project</a></iframe><br><br><iframe width="100%" height="300" scrolling="no" frameborder="no" allow="autoplay" src="https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=https%3A//api.soundcloud.com/playlists/1683504027&color=%23ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true&visual=true"></iframe><div style="font-size: 10px; color: #cccccc;line-break: anywhere;word-break: normal;overflow: hidden;white-space: nowrap;text-overflow: ellipsis; font-family: Interstate,Lucida Grande,Lucida Sans Unicode,Lucida Sans,Garuda,Verdana,Tahoma,sans-serif;font-weight: 100;"><a href="https://soundcloud.com/robert-galluzzo" title="Robert V Galluzzo" target="_blank" style="color: #cccccc; text-decoration: none;">Robert V Galluzzo</a> · <a href="https://soundcloud.com/robert-galluzzo/sets/pike-project-plays-spiral-moon-and-more" title="Pike Project Plays Spiral Moon" target="_blank" style="color: #cccccc; text-decoration: none;">Pike Project Plays Spiral Moon</a></div><br><br><iframe id='AmazonMusicEmbedB0CHW797CS' src='https://music.amazon.com/embed/B0CHW797CS/?id=sq3nsJyS3z&marketplaceId=ATVPDKIKX0DER&musicTerritory=US' width='100%' height='352px' frameBorder='0' style='border-radius:20px;border:1px solid rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.12);max-width:'></iframe><br><br><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/videoseries?si=1QDJNu0TOCM8lLV0&list=OLAK5uy_kGsj1WexlyDHBjXameNyPRPT6CBcJic1U" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe><br /><p></p>Robert V Galluzzohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02498151275554902311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1204446957257331884.post-15425197944011986712023-09-09T08:00:00.069-07:002023-09-10T12:17:31.121-07:002023, Vol 4: The End Of Summer Is Here<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4lFgTvmuKxeVtPzMvgtMpJhPw19BUC0J30NIbne4gRdaJqSECeqjCsWoJYBG4U0drLzDIy5fqn_ykbby1WntDRUpw0p2xggxblxvKLaQ5uKnSrHyXC5HnmpqgP_EVkf4TJTRIPYaxk2ZtsD6s1b5dYhlQk-5bXXPvcsTKUC9viG-aVYn9IX28E-SPgzPo/s1536/0_0.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1024" data-original-width="1536" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4lFgTvmuKxeVtPzMvgtMpJhPw19BUC0J30NIbne4gRdaJqSECeqjCsWoJYBG4U0drLzDIy5fqn_ykbby1WntDRUpw0p2xggxblxvKLaQ5uKnSrHyXC5HnmpqgP_EVkf4TJTRIPYaxk2ZtsD6s1b5dYhlQk-5bXXPvcsTKUC9viG-aVYn9IX28E-SPgzPo/w400-h266/0_0.png" width="400" /></a></div><p><br />New mixtape to cap off the end of summer! So many of my talented friends put out new music in the last few months, including: Playing Dead, Coventry Carols, System Syn, Miss Randall, & Katy Tunbridge.<br /><br />My newest band discovery is Pierce The Veil who I caught doing an incredible version of Radiohead's "Karma Police" on Like A Version from Triple J. (Look it up on YouTube.) Also, Sleep Token, great recommendation from Dustin Sain. Second track is Foo Fighters and so is the second to last track! Wolfie's Just Fine manages, yet again, to sing a song that completely captures what it personally felt like for me to be 13 years old with "Hulk Hogan Slammed Andre The Giant." New PJ Harvey, Queens of the Stone Age, Alan Walker, and more! <br /><br />My favorite discovery was Dean Johnson, a folk singer recommended to me by my music compadre Jay. Just two people walking on opposite sides of the street, all in one continuous take. After nailing it in 3 takes, that's when we went off and improvised a bunch of stuff that ended up in the final released video. But it's fun to look back at this original version. It's goofy, but fun. And it's a catchy tune. <br /><br />I will always take pride in the <i>Pike Project</i> album, and forever be grateful that Erika is always game to be creative on a whim. When I was working on the edit, my friend Natasha suggested I try a black & white version because of how strong the contrast is. I loved the way it looked, but I didn't want to lose the vibrant colors that these latest iPhone's are capable of capturing. So we released it in color, knowing I'd eventually share this alternate version!<br /><br />
This album I recorded with Christian James Hand under the moniker of "<b><a href="https://linktr.ee/pikeproject" target="_blank">Pike Project</a></b>," and we released it last summer. I'm so, so proud of it. It's a positive that came out of a period of non-stop negative; amid the most difficult time of my life. But when I look back on that time now, I want it to be summarized by this song, <i>"Hope For Us To Shine."</i> If you haven't yet, give the whole record a listen.<br /><br />Pike Project on:<br /><b><a href="https://open.spotify.com/album/3o5czrfoWJNL5jxumJM2Jx?si=D2joZzVLT6OKjojMg-QXhQ" target="_blank">Spotify</a></b><br /><b><a href="https://music.apple.com/us/album/to-auld-acquaintances-vol-1/1632167710" target="_blank">Apple Music</a></b><br /><b><a href="https://pikeproject.bandcamp.com/album/to-auld-acquaintances-vol-1" target="_blank">Bandcamp</a></b><br /><b><a href="https://soundcloud.com/robert-galluzzo/sets/pike-project" target="_blank">Soundcloud</a></b><br /><br />Watch all the music videos <a href="https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhB7uaMw80KS0JN1lqP1E4ChZqGV2LdVz" target="_blank">right HERE</a>.<br /><br /><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/PKHSxg94OuU" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe> </p>Robert V Galluzzohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02498151275554902311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1204446957257331884.post-83855574159698523462023-03-15T09:00:00.072-07:002023-05-14T21:11:30.827-07:00THE HIGH DESERT - A Graphic Novel by James Spooner<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO3EIbc3UZQL2RqQ5AVgCWTfNj-cJbJMTYPLXkbHFXwycuFdpKNiEYng3foVbdoxKZSdZvnubHxLHHAikaGz_8K3sDo25h9Yw-XskBY-IWLiu4yURDCO0E0uqHWotgZHSEDQvh2EMj4fxPFLh9_CiU569w_YardR84cHVZv19APUbWP0kte5MQKe_fyA/s1553/High%20Desert.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1553" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO3EIbc3UZQL2RqQ5AVgCWTfNj-cJbJMTYPLXkbHFXwycuFdpKNiEYng3foVbdoxKZSdZvnubHxLHHAikaGz_8K3sDo25h9Yw-XskBY-IWLiu4yURDCO0E0uqHWotgZHSEDQvh2EMj4fxPFLh9_CiU569w_YardR84cHVZv19APUbWP0kte5MQKe_fyA/w494-h640/High%20Desert.jpg" width="494" /></a></div><br />Recently read this great graphic novel memoir, <b><a href="https://amzn.to/43h4kjh" target="_blank">THE HIGH DESERT</a></b> by <i>James Spooner</i>, that takes place in the mid-to-late 80's in an isolated Califorina desert town. (With a trip to NYC in the middle.) Loved it. And because the author regularly references the punk tunes he was listening to on his walkman at the time, I made a mix / playlist of every song mentioned! An unofficial soundtrack! Check it out, and when you <a href="https://amzn.to/43h4kjh" target="_blank">get the book</a>, listen along. <br /><br />1. <i>Institutionalized</i> by <b>Suicidal Tendencies</b><br />2. <i>Depression</i> by <b>Black Flag</b><br />3. <i>No Values</i> by <b>Black Flag</b><br />4. <i>Boys Don't Cry (Single Version)</i> by <b>The Cure</b><br />5. <i>The Number Of The Beast</i> by <b>Iron Maiden</b><br />6. <i>Police Story</i> by <b>Black Flag</b><br />7. <i>A Day</i> by <b>Clan Of Xymox</b><br />8. <i>F**k Authority</i> by <b>Wasted Youth</b><br />9. <i>What Do I Get?</i> by <b>Buzzcocks</b><br />10. <i>White Minority</i> by <b>Black Flag</b><br />11. <i>White Noise</i> by <b>Stiff Little Fingers</b><br />12. <i>Hybrid Moments</i> by <b>The Misfits</b><br />13. <i>I've Got a Problem</i> by <b>The Meatmen</b><br />14. <i>Parents</i> by <b>Descendents</b><br />15. <i>Had A Dad</i> by <b>Janes Addiction</b><br />16. <i>Attitude</i> by <b>Bad Brains</b><br />17. <i>Degradation</i> by <b>Gorilla Biscuits</b><br />18. <i>Straight Edge</i> by <b>Minor Threat</b><br />19. <i>Take Warning</i> by <b>Operation Ivy</b><br />20. <i>Boys Don't Cry (New Voice Club Mix)</i> by <b>The Cure</b><br /><br /><a href="https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0Ju1sZjQ5kPdgZOeqP8rjU?si=c3fbf8f9f5a34bcc" target="_blank"><b>Spotify</b></a><br /><a href="https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/the-high-desert/pl.u-JRXBPFD7o2No" target="_blank"><b>Apple Music</b></a><br /><a href="https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhB7uaMw80KSAEwkir5p9TWPIPfSQ8ajS" target="_blank"><b>YouTube</b></a><br /><br /><br /><iframe allow="autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="352" loading="lazy" src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/playlist/0Ju1sZjQ5kPdgZOeqP8rjU?utm_source=generator" style="border-radius: 12px;" width="100%"></iframe><br /><br /><iframe allow="autoplay *; encrypted-media *; fullscreen *; clipboard-write" frameborder="0" height="450" sandbox="allow-forms allow-popups allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-storage-access-by-user-activation allow-top-navigation-by-user-activation" src="https://embed.music.apple.com/us/playlist/the-high-desert/pl.u-JRXBPFD7o2No" style="border-radius: 10px; max-width: 660px; overflow: hidden; width: 100%;"></iframe><br /><br /><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/videoseries?list=PLhB7uaMw80KSAEwkir5p9TWPIPfSQ8ajS" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe><br /><br />Robert V Galluzzohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02498151275554902311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1204446957257331884.post-70018456686662402462023-02-26T09:00:00.168-08:002023-04-09T17:24:36.594-07:00Headbanger Metal Mania! 🤘<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4U98_x8nhrOan9jr5riLurIxTtnCK_BTsM2MRyZzbYM1oUeC1lGf0cIK7eNKr9VKSFtWVqa0OCvHGCtIFWF7yvlb3tjGAGd71VdyXg-9sK6mRLxym_ha2OJn49B9mL265VqNF4omsQq7ccGeDklt3ogiRT9-M1Oeo0q6yg3a3PnXAKIhOE2470Ev86g/s612/METAL.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="612" data-original-width="611" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4U98_x8nhrOan9jr5riLurIxTtnCK_BTsM2MRyZzbYM1oUeC1lGf0cIK7eNKr9VKSFtWVqa0OCvHGCtIFWF7yvlb3tjGAGd71VdyXg-9sK6mRLxym_ha2OJn49B9mL265VqNF4omsQq7ccGeDklt3ogiRT9-M1Oeo0q6yg3a3PnXAKIhOE2470Ev86g/w399-h400/METAL.jpg" width="399" /></a></div><p><br />Alisa had asked me a while back to put together a heavy metal mix. Which is a shame, because it features some of my favorite chats, like this one with my dear friend Mick Garris. <br /><br />Not only do we listen to and discuss tracks from his band <b>HORSEFEATHERS</b>, but we delve into his early days as a music journalist; and how he interviewed everyone from Jimi Hendrix to Janis Joplin. We even talk about how he was at the legendary Elton John debut performance at the Troubadour, as depicted in epic fashion in the film ROCKETMAN! <br /><br />Rare that the two of us get to have an enthusiastic conversation just about music, but it exists! Everything from the Downward Spiral tour to their co-heading stadium tour with David Bowie, and beyond. But lately, I'd been going down the rabbit hole on YouTube for a series of videos I remember being posted on their official YouTube page. Live performances shot by their friend and collaborator Rob Sheridan directly on stage. The frantic nature of the footage, bouncing from band member to band member, coupled with the excellent sound mix straight from the soundboard makes for some of their all-time best performances!<br /><br />I also found some recent uploads from their drummer Ilan Rubin; a drummer cam, if you will, and these performances of "The Perfect Drug," "March Of The Pigs," and "Piggy" were next level. <br /><br />I started collecting a bunch of these videos into a YouTube playlist and realized I was basically putting together the ultimate live Nine Inch Nails setlist! A LOT! <br /><br />I just wanted to illustrate how pivotal Christian was at shaping the ideas I had for what would become the <b><i>Pike Project</i></b> album, and how he heard a demo and brought out the absolute best in it. For starters, shortly after we released the self-titled "<a href="https://thegreatbelow.bandcamp.com/album/the-great-below" target="_blank">The Great Below</a>" album, I started demo-ing a few new song ideas. One of them was titled <i>"Break Down."</i> It was one of 4 demos I played for Christian when we first started discussions about making the album. So you can now hear that <i>original demo</i>, embedded below, that I played for him. <br /><br />That's all I had. A chorus and a opening/closing riff. I heard it as, kind of, a Nirvana song, and he turned it into a Nine Inch Nails song. (Or a perfect combo of the two! After all, they're both among my all-time favorite bands.) The mono opening on the final version was something we dreamed up together after the first playback. The song had a very dark tone to it. Something you'd never pick up on otherwise is a weird bit of dialogue in the middle of the track. Christian read random quotes by serial killer Richard Ramirez, and then played them backwards. So that's what's subtly happening during that acoustic break down in the middle section. I was also thinking a lot about <i>Dexter</i> and his (at the time) inevitable return in <i>New Blood</i>. Producing the official podcast, I got the opportunity to read some of the scripts in advance and it influenced the lyrics for this song. <br /><br />In the last few years, I've gotten into the habit of recording all my music ideas on my iPhone. Either a melody, a riff, or both! These ideas are usually incredibly raw and under normal circumstances, I'd never, ever share these. But I found this second example on my phone recently and it was fun to hear now with context. I'd say the last song I wrote for the album was "Love For The Loveless." And it started simply as this iPhone demo below. I played that for Christian, and in lightning time, we came up with the quirky, pop punk song you hear on the album. (In a higher octave, but the basic melody and riffs are the same.) The title came first. "Love For The Loveless." Thinking of all the awful people that make it their life's mission to weaponize Twitter to hurt others. And I wondered if they had any love in their lives. If they did, would they be this desperate for attention? That they'd lie just to hurt someone they don't even know? Surely, someone out there must show love for the loveless, right? Well, that was just the title. The actual lyrics are more about two people looking for love, wandering the streets, and constantly passing each other by. (A very goofy version of which became the basis for the <a href="https://youtu.be/f6hRMV6iJeg" target="_blank">music video</a>.) <br /><br />Not every song is about what you think it's about. But that's what I love about music. It's up to the listener to fill in what the song means to them. But sometimes, it's fun to pull the curtain back just a tiny bit and reveal something about the creative process. <br /><br /><iframe allow="autoplay" frameborder="no" height="300" scrolling="no" src="https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=https%3A//api.soundcloud.com/playlists/1524774481&color=%23ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true&visual=true" width="100%"></iframe><p></p><div style="color: #cccccc; font-family: Interstate, "Lucida Grande", "Lucida Sans Unicode", "Lucida Sans", Garuda, Verdana, Tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 10px; font-weight: 100; line-break: anywhere; overflow: hidden; text-overflow: ellipsis; white-space: nowrap; word-break: normal;"><a href="https://soundcloud.com/robert-galluzzo" style="color: #cccccc; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank" title="Robert V Galluzzo">Robert V Galluzzo</a> · <a href="https://soundcloud.com/robert-galluzzo/sets/pike-project-demo-vs-final" style="color: #cccccc; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank" title="Pike Project - Demo Vs Final Version">Pike Project - Demo Vs Final Version</a></div><p></p>Robert V Galluzzohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02498151275554902311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1204446957257331884.post-38606069670896573262022-11-10T09:00:00.001-08:002022-11-10T22:03:57.708-08:00"Pike Project" - A tribute to Captain Christopher Pike<p></p><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBNLOfSx_nCBpMOHkUP3dGO-VSl9Cc6nkVbzLa2ZQmNIayj0abf94Z9Eaiq9U2d4npHf2ZAmTC-SQ0D0Xnggf8auB3ZhRrJMOSbOYKssPV4fEgcTEcebuWugeX8TcN-qi_LCVvBBj4UajwvQhVpm8rU8OVlEUj7e7mK0whtaa11IlFwoH3lAk3zryVGA/s2048/315142569_10158441529705981_9019097498891078397_n.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2048" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBNLOfSx_nCBpMOHkUP3dGO-VSl9Cc6nkVbzLa2ZQmNIayj0abf94Z9Eaiq9U2d4npHf2ZAmTC-SQ0D0Xnggf8auB3ZhRrJMOSbOYKssPV4fEgcTEcebuWugeX8TcN-qi_LCVvBBj4UajwvQhVpm8rU8OVlEUj7e7mK0whtaa11IlFwoH3lAk3zryVGA/w400-h400/315142569_10158441529705981_9019097498891078397_n.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /></div>Back in July, I released a brand new album, my collaboration with Christian James Hand, under the moniker of "Pike Project." But where did this name come from? We started recording sessions back in November of 2020, and around that same time, I was in the middle of a Star Trek movie marathon. On this rewatch, the character I kept gravitating towards was Captain Pike, in particular the version played by Bruce Greenwood in the "Kelvin" trilogy. Maybe it's the father figure-to-Kirk aspect, given that I'd just lost my father. But it made me take a deeper look at that character's history in the Star Trek lore, something I admittedly am only a moderate fan of. I love the tragedy of Pike. And considering my most prominent band was "Pretty Polly," I liked the idea of naming this new project something with the similar Two P's name. Hence... PIKE PROJECT. Had a cool ring to it. Low and behold, something must have been in the air, because just as we were finally getting ready to mix, master, and release the album, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premiered, focusing on that great, rich, and tragic backstory of Captain Christopher Pike, this time played by Anson Mount. I'm proud of the Pike Project album, and happy to share the inspiration behind the name! Now give it a listen with this new tidbit in mind! <p></p><b><u>PIKE PROJECT “To Auld Acquaintances… Vol.1.”</u></b><br /><br />The Music Videos! <span style="color: #0563c1; text-decoration-line: underline;"><a data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://bit.ly/3PRQlJc&source=gmail&ust=1668232615137000&usg=AOvVaw02X1so_DCPv1HAiw2W6IYQ" href="https://bit.ly/3PRQlJc" style="color: #0563c1;" target="_blank">https://bit.ly/3PRQlJc</a></span><br />Spotify: <span style="color: #0563c1; text-decoration-line: underline;"><a data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://spoti.fi/3OBFVwh&source=gmail&ust=1668232615137000&usg=AOvVaw3CyUVi4F-f71E4p-8YfB2p" href="https://spoti.fi/3OBFVwh" style="color: #0563c1;" target="_blank">https://spoti.fi/3OBFVwh</a></span><br />Apple Music: <span style="color: #0563c1; text-decoration-line: underline;"><a data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://apple.co/3OENgel&source=gmail&ust=1668232615137000&usg=AOvVaw3yhV_Wr5Vjdycv4qSoBvnQ" href="https://apple.co/3OENgel" style="color: #0563c1;" target="_blank">https://apple.co/3OENgel</a></span><br />Bandcamp: <span style="color: #0563c1; text-decoration-line: underline;"><a data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://pikeproject.bandcamp.com/&source=gmail&ust=1668232615137000&usg=AOvVaw0GActU6Sb7EVZdlT5MkZ-c" href="https://pikeproject.bandcamp.com/" style="color: #0563c1;" target="_blank">https://pikeproject.bandcamp.<wbr></wbr>com/</a></span><br />Amazon Music: <span style="color: #0563c1; text-decoration-line: underline;"><a data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://amzn.to/3BgWTNr&source=gmail&ust=1668232615137000&usg=AOvVaw3pkicYjU7Tmg2b8mY0xKcq" href="https://amzn.to/3BgWTNr" style="color: #0563c1;" target="_blank">https://amzn.to/3BgWTNr</a></span><br />Soundcloud: <span style="color: #0563c1; text-decoration-line: underline;"><a data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://bit.ly/3viNTUl&source=gmail&ust=1668232615137000&usg=AOvVaw0Fw1c7AlSEj7qOa54LY2h1" href="https://bit.ly/3viNTUl" style="color: #0563c1;" target="_blank">https://bit.ly/3viNTUl</a></span><br />LinkTree: <span style="color: #0563c1; text-decoration-line: underline;"><a data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://linktr.ee/pikeproject&source=gmail&ust=1668232615137000&usg=AOvVaw04t3JuyKMe95XfJ7p8aUPH" href="https://linktr.ee/pikeproject" style="color: #0563c1;" target="_blank">https://linktr.ee/pikeproject</a><br /><br /><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/caUo3FQkRPM" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe></span>Robert V Galluzzohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02498151275554902311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1204446957257331884.post-87389251829777160512022-11-01T09:00:00.080-07:002022-11-01T09:37:17.206-07:002022 Vol 4 - I Don't Know How I Survived<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJfvLaviNXl-AsbOKh5PoeRtWaHjj1Sfj69djf2N6luzEzOOUlCdCP6gzRcS8J09MRFC_Q1Abonc47PXGViGpVCMuLMdvU1Oxr_619nh93bPzFcnIhoA7t51_PZQIPAKFx5dJMxXqmmmuMCfSCFAEGuUDcqdanujOHBjWHP4p7AzmjrWiHVfsBAISEIw/s1524/IMG_6043.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1188" data-original-width="1524" height="311" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJfvLaviNXl-AsbOKh5PoeRtWaHjj1Sfj69djf2N6luzEzOOUlCdCP6gzRcS8J09MRFC_Q1Abonc47PXGViGpVCMuLMdvU1Oxr_619nh93bPzFcnIhoA7t51_PZQIPAKFx5dJMxXqmmmuMCfSCFAEGuUDcqdanujOHBjWHP4p7AzmjrWiHVfsBAISEIw/w400-h311/IMG_6043.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>I wanted to wait until <i>after</i> Halloween season 2022 to share the latest mix, but I'd been listening to these songs, rearranging, and thinking about them for weeks. It's truly amazing how new music can provide the ideal soundtrack to our lives. <br /><br />The new singles from Blink-182 and Filter have been on heavy rotation since they dropped and I've listened to them over and over again. A long-lost Queen track recently surfaced with "Face It Alone," and it's like time travel getting to hear Freddie Mercury's voice again. I've got two from Long Island local bands Playing Dead and Smoke the Light (featuring former Pretty Polly drummer Stevie D!) on here. <br /><br />My favorite new band discovery is AL1CE, a moody electronic-based band; a few members of which support the live version of System Syn. Alisa Xayalith from New Zealand's The Naked and Famous has been releasing some solo singles, including the latest one on this playlist "I'll Be There." I watched the movie <b>Meet Cute</b> recently and they used this Damien Jurado track.<br /><br />I was nervous there weren't enough "rockers" on this mix, and then Iggy Pop went and dropped a rad new single. Iggy always returns when we need him to. Same for Crosses. Of course, I snuck on two tracks from my own album with Pike Project. And I initially opened and closed this mix with two new ones from Death Cab For Cutie who inspired this Volume's title. But I love the Van Andrew tune so much (sent to me by my buddy Johnny) and felt like it <i>had</i> to be the opener. <br /><br />Lastly, like most people, I grew up a huge fan of THE KARATE KID movies, and have been loving COBRA KAI on Netflix. I stumbled upon a video using a new version of Peter Cetera's "Glory Of Love" cut to a deleted scene from COBRA KAI Season 3 with Daniel and Kumiko. It's so beautifully edited together, using clips from KARATE KID 2 that I just had to include it on this mix towards the end. Here's that video:<br /><br /><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/n0wa9gmHu0k" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe><br /><br />So without further ado... <br /><br /><b><u>2022 Vol 4 - I Don't Know How I Survived</u></b><br /><br />1. <i>Sad Cowboys and Rock and Roll</i> by <b>Van Andrew</b><br />2. <i>I Don't Know How I Survive</i> by <b>Death Cab For Cutie</b><br />3. <i>EDGING</i> by <b>Blink-182</b><br />4. <i>For The Beaten</i> by <b>Filter</b><br />5. <i>Break Down</i> by <b>Pike Project</b><br />6. <i>Time</i> by <b>AL1CE</b><br />7. <i>Frenzy</i> by <b>Iggy Pop</b><br />8. <i>Vivien</i> by <b>Crosses</b><br />9. <i>This Is Why</i> by <b>Paramore</b><br />10. <i>Face It Alone</i> by <b>Queen</b><br />11. <i>boy</i> by <b>The Killers</b> <br />12. <i>Take Me Back</i> by <b>Playing Dead</b><br />13. <i>I'll Be There</i> by <b>Alisa Xayalith</b> <br />14. <i>Place Your Debts</i> by <b>Jimmy Eat World</b><br />15. <i>Wolf</i> by <b>Yeah Yeah Yeahs</b><br />16. <i>Noise</i> by <b>The Devil Wears Prada</b><br />17. <i>The Heroic Dose</i> by <b>Smoke the Light</b><br />18. <i>The Shape of a Storm</i> by <b>Damien Jurado</b><br />19. <i>Running From The Ghost</i> by <b>Billy Idol</b><br />20. <i>Glory of Love</i> by <b>Michael Omartian & Peter Cetera</b><br />21. <i>Everything Is Just Fine</i> by <b>Pike Project</b><br />22. <i>I'll Never Give Up On You</i> by <b>Death Cab For Cutie</b> <br /><br /><iframe allow="autoplay *; encrypted-media *; fullscreen *; clipboard-write" frameborder="0" height="450" sandbox="allow-forms allow-popups allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-storage-access-by-user-activation allow-top-navigation-by-user-activation" src="https://embed.music.apple.com/us/playlist/2022-vol-4-i-dont-know-how-i-survived/pl.u-mvkGDsz8PVLP" style="background: transparent; max-width: 660px; overflow: hidden; width: 100%;"></iframe><br /><br /><iframe allow="autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="380" loading="lazy" src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/playlist/2DhJOY05qDDpEq8aCwAmej?utm_source=generator" style="border-radius: 12px;" width="100%"></iframe><br /><br /><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/videoseries?list=PLhB7uaMw80KRfcpt0TVtoVZspYXZ4v4P_" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe> <br /><p></p><div><br /></div><div>For previous mixes from this year:<br /><br />- <a href="http://robgalluzzo.blogspot.com/2022/04/so-far-so-good-2022-sampler.html" target="_blank"><b>2022 Sampler Vol 1: So Far, So Good...</b></a><br /><br />- <b><a href="http://robgalluzzo.blogspot.com/2022/06/2022-vol-2-karmic-spring.html" target="_blank">2022 Vol 2 - Karmic Spring</a></b><br /><br />- <b><a href="http://robgalluzzo.blogspot.com/2022/08/2022-vol-3-glitch-in-matrix.html" target="_blank">2022 Vol 3 - Glitch In The Matrix</a></b><br /><br />- <b><a href="http://robgalluzzo.blogspot.com/2022/01/2021-in-review-master-playlist.html" target="_blank">2021: The Master Playlist</a></b> <br /><br /> </div>Robert V Galluzzohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02498151275554902311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1204446957257331884.post-21527562367261114012022-09-27T09:00:00.002-07:002023-05-14T21:13:09.538-07:00ANALOG LOVE at the Majestic in Tempe, AZ! <p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjV7n0dULldXW9S4T0UUMquMYtGivt0pE--LMgTGUwkJzdB1iG_8yaNXv_DLtYnru3K9ybzgjACNH4wYip2QWeG-UzWT-ke752eUJEiOcIIlUuaURYd9dtB0cczpq1YdAvDL-FNu8GoFpUmTXpGnT450xsmbdDzXVM5Pv6HLXDssm5-4Oky-0_98yp8g/s1170/AL-AZ-01.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="878" data-original-width="1170" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjV7n0dULldXW9S4T0UUMquMYtGivt0pE--LMgTGUwkJzdB1iG_8yaNXv_DLtYnru3K9ybzgjACNH4wYip2QWeG-UzWT-ke752eUJEiOcIIlUuaURYd9dtB0cczpq1YdAvDL-FNu8GoFpUmTXpGnT450xsmbdDzXVM5Pv6HLXDssm5-4Oky-0_98yp8g/w400-h300/AL-AZ-01.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>In pre-pandemic times, <i>Analog Love</i> was scheduled to make it's world premiere at the Phoenix Film Festival at the end of March of 2020. The same week, LUCKY, the horror satire I produced, was scheduled to premiere at South By Southwest. And that would've kicked off the festival tours for both films, which in a lot of ways I spent my whole life prepping to make. I was so beyond proud of both and the incredible crews that were responsible for making them both a reality. And I was so, so thrilled to finally put positive things out into the universe. And then... Covid happened and derailed it all. <p></p><p><br />Had those premieres happened and we weren't in lock down, I don't think the smear campaign against me would've happened. At least not in the unfair and cruel way that it did. But this is, sadly, the time line we're stuck in. And all we can do is focus on the day ahead of us, not the past. Two years after our original intended premiere date, and one full year after the release, we finally got to screen <i>Analog Love</i> in Arizona, the state it should have premiered in in the first place. </p><p>Both this screening, and the NY one, came about totally organically. In this instance, I have a small group of friends that have been successfully hosting some incredible genre related screenings in the Phoenix area. Aaron Hudson and my old friend from the NY days Samantha Hurdich. And once I learned about Zia Records regularly scheduled Sunday Soundtrack Series, it seemed like the perfect fit. And it was!<br /><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC2p4OVRvmaBoIz89fzuk-JZQqSAYviv6Uq8incYz23T5s6K_nsn1w253RKuXVXF311GwhpvdbhAanh-lD3BTL8mraAHUiymrJf9mnj9ClunD8KA1HDgmzyLvlXZyPpsl3eLguv8S5iuNQ9zC6qgiaRP1ShAnrEQdN9aonMFbX431T1l0GJOtpe6-y1g/s1170/AL-AZ-02.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="878" data-original-width="1170" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC2p4OVRvmaBoIz89fzuk-JZQqSAYviv6Uq8incYz23T5s6K_nsn1w253RKuXVXF311GwhpvdbhAanh-lD3BTL8mraAHUiymrJf9mnj9ClunD8KA1HDgmzyLvlXZyPpsl3eLguv8S5iuNQ9zC6qgiaRP1ShAnrEQdN9aonMFbX431T1l0GJOtpe6-y1g/w400-h300/AL-AZ-02.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>We screened it at the Majestic, located in Tempe, AZ on <i>Sunday, September 11th</i> and it truly felt like a homecoming. More so than even the NY screening in a weird way. Aaron and Sam had waited until the night of to actually watch the movie, despite me having given them Blu-Ray's months earlier, and I really appreciated it, because I got to sit next to them and hear their genuine laughs and reactions. It was a slightly smaller space than the NY venue, and hence slightly less people, but the people that were there truly got it and were responding with extreme enthusiasm, and I could <i>feel </i>it. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3qHU-Ra73MAwX4z0QAb_ef0TnN1VHtqw74vLC1uVpg_cHM5ir6i63GYI32Ah3snrW4EzfPI9qwvvM9JtGIg2NGHo6JPWwYxGOsrmX5ib941L-cUawIhOESnmGfq84gnWs-vJfFSgZcCRvKzNxJFx7vQUAd61ElC5dkkwtdqM8kKpGLIaUcio4E_P4lw/s2048/AL-AZ-03.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3qHU-Ra73MAwX4z0QAb_ef0TnN1VHtqw74vLC1uVpg_cHM5ir6i63GYI32Ah3snrW4EzfPI9qwvvM9JtGIg2NGHo6JPWwYxGOsrmX5ib941L-cUawIhOESnmGfq84gnWs-vJfFSgZcCRvKzNxJFx7vQUAd61ElC5dkkwtdqM8kKpGLIaUcio4E_P4lw/w480-h640/AL-AZ-03.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgssB3_VuPxeO5XFSzX1cY3fZJHt3QTCkRUWyKRFwS316S-SHK5dZPhP6Zz16zzWj81UBre10IhpPFf7hhZuxnOqCC__CbpHKvFodDbGY_3AEHKZSxNf4M-mkPUwVOqH1VX-WCSyAjlVwSCNtxX_hcCozOmoImXHmrXnzv4iO-xYVqARObDzevMSvHtkA/s2048/AL-AZ-04.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgssB3_VuPxeO5XFSzX1cY3fZJHt3QTCkRUWyKRFwS316S-SHK5dZPhP6Zz16zzWj81UBre10IhpPFf7hhZuxnOqCC__CbpHKvFodDbGY_3AEHKZSxNf4M-mkPUwVOqH1VX-WCSyAjlVwSCNtxX_hcCozOmoImXHmrXnzv4iO-xYVqARObDzevMSvHtkA/w480-h640/AL-AZ-04.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg91L9R7Zy3ApT_kZvnCkEFLIpT8vEATsG1ywBCH_lkz5TEYRoBWT0RimXOHblsyxCAdHJHwXMUUwM2N3DwbtcN1fwpIZwjSmx-2lVX6MR-1Et5A5T0-wUAL_9y4fcbSBLGJYBQ00OPm-QV__nDKYSSXfTsQVnHdXLa_fbEPmHuR2ze007OpPT-x3kWvQ/s2048/AL-AZ-05.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg91L9R7Zy3ApT_kZvnCkEFLIpT8vEATsG1ywBCH_lkz5TEYRoBWT0RimXOHblsyxCAdHJHwXMUUwM2N3DwbtcN1fwpIZwjSmx-2lVX6MR-1Et5A5T0-wUAL_9y4fcbSBLGJYBQ00OPm-QV__nDKYSSXfTsQVnHdXLa_fbEPmHuR2ze007OpPT-x3kWvQ/w480-h640/AL-AZ-05.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>Aaron and I did a Q & A afterwards, but it turned more into a general conversation between the group of people that stuck around and ourselves. And one full year since it was released, digitally, by Passion River. And it was long overdue! <br /><br />
I only got to screen the doc one time for an audience and that was a "cast & crew" screening back in January of 2020. And the one thing I didn't anticipate is how communal the film would play. People were laughing out loud, agreeing with some of the track choices and techniques expressed by the interviewees, and just having a great time. <br /><br />
I was so, so excited to bring this movie on the road, mainly because of the great conversations I knew it'd inspire, post-screenings. But alas, it wasn't meant to be. At least not in this (awful) timeline. <br /><br />
Cut to August of 2022... I decided I wanted to go back to NY after a lengthy 8 year absence. After the turbulent few years we've all just had, I just wanted to be around my childhood friends again for a bit. While I was planning the trip, I was talking to my old friend and colleague Matt Roren, whom I played multiple shows with in our respective band, and who also programs the "<b><a href="https://www.facebook.com/thecultcafe" target="_blank">Cult Cafe</a></b>" screenings at the <b><a href="https://cinemaartscentre.org/" target="_blank">Cinema Arts Centre</a></b>. They've been closed for the last 2 years too, so when he suggested their first screening back be <i><b>Analog Love</b></i>, I was so, so honored. I figured if I only got to screen the movie once, at least it'll be on my home turf with friends from high school, the band days, Tower Records, my family and beyond. <br /><br />
I arrived at the venue early so that I could catch up with Matt. And much to my surprise, he was in the process of finishing up a batch of handmade mixtapes he'd made to give away to the first attendees! And if he ran out of tapes, he had an expanded CD version too! And looking over the track listing, it really was curated based on the discussions in the film!<br /><br /><center><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIxLAncGyOsN929eyLhNT6OvErkFc-ciMt1FSGwqLoW0UbsnZdOMqibxYkBzJRuCcoF2zOOvAOoPpzy1rOxUqgf0Utv9jr3Egk765G1olCjJFM3vuCmTRBhwbGz-LCAd0ZwE3-joetWYZl7GKWOpQTHX2g5AhUaaM68x5w6aIvTvoX0i1CdY4JhTdmVQ/s3024/IMG_6381.heic" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIxLAncGyOsN929eyLhNT6OvErkFc-ciMt1FSGwqLoW0UbsnZdOMqibxYkBzJRuCcoF2zOOvAOoPpzy1rOxUqgf0Utv9jr3Egk765G1olCjJFM3vuCmTRBhwbGz-LCAd0ZwE3-joetWYZl7GKWOpQTHX2g5AhUaaM68x5w6aIvTvoX0i1CdY4JhTdmVQ/w400-h400/IMG_6381.heic" width="400" /></a></div></center><div><br /></div>
The screening itself was a blast. The Cult Cafe is truly a unique venue to see a movie, with a coffee house / bar vibe, and an enthusiastic audience that just wants to see something good together. And mixtapes (or Playlists) are a big part of every screening that Matt hosts there. In fact, the usual crew there gifted Matt with a mixtape for his grand return. <br /><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0OQSna8Qt2alYBA_bLEAq0doFakV5kuuvhzBJQ5mBvq-qd2gLHD0iVQ9DLOWNUdgQcrSWlGuDks-iiWBUEWvTzwsRmwZC3cgDmbE1L8hyWnFOcNx83K3U-nDhnUh3cVWpGMetsbxlQLp1CgWQ1q9BSOiv3bGTlLG6I3S3RzZos2aDnBuizNLlI6aTqQ/s4032/IMG_6395.HEIC" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0OQSna8Qt2alYBA_bLEAq0doFakV5kuuvhzBJQ5mBvq-qd2gLHD0iVQ9DLOWNUdgQcrSWlGuDks-iiWBUEWvTzwsRmwZC3cgDmbE1L8hyWnFOcNx83K3U-nDhnUh3cVWpGMetsbxlQLp1CgWQ1q9BSOiv3bGTlLG6I3S3RzZos2aDnBuizNLlI6aTqQ/w400-h300/IMG_6395.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz85ximLVTY0qGzHclc5n4-ZM78Mfyh6TkrZ8l0ltCS1WP5AusPg93AEAuDGvJPeHFa_EKj6BwmTeshL2QiZza2vMUYabum6fHm4wxFwjI8V4KDJozxNUrLw2GkNzjOczCM5IaHXWhIaOBWyrp0aS1w9lpx8dscjsV9noJj0EGr0yR6DTa5H_9Rq8wkQ/s4032/IMG_7278.HEIC" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz85ximLVTY0qGzHclc5n4-ZM78Mfyh6TkrZ8l0ltCS1WP5AusPg93AEAuDGvJPeHFa_EKj6BwmTeshL2QiZza2vMUYabum6fHm4wxFwjI8V4KDJozxNUrLw2GkNzjOczCM5IaHXWhIaOBWyrp0aS1w9lpx8dscjsV9noJj0EGr0yR6DTa5H_9Rq8wkQ/w400-h300/IMG_7278.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjSehXXSVRaIQQ5ZJBJQorfvgupN3Fn9c19u_N_M6ydZgTlO6G7b1fPCtRT_Myg8VYNYBf6biyIotHa4HT24BQ0HsDZ0Bsd4j3A5qax9P_hVJcOgO0HVmYLWMglgksK00xytuJRvAYSV_aB96oFuF5X8MvK0UyKIZ81BQZR3DRdV_zjedft-wg8N2Fuw/s4032/IMG_7280.HEIC" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjSehXXSVRaIQQ5ZJBJQorfvgupN3Fn9c19u_N_M6ydZgTlO6G7b1fPCtRT_Myg8VYNYBf6biyIotHa4HT24BQ0HsDZ0Bsd4j3A5qax9P_hVJcOgO0HVmYLWMglgksK00xytuJRvAYSV_aB96oFuF5X8MvK0UyKIZ81BQZR3DRdV_zjedft-wg8N2Fuw/w400-h300/IMG_7280.HEIC" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>It's been several weeks since that NY screening and I feel like so much has happened since then.
